Real estate blog ranks safest suburbs
The Village of Homer Glen is the safest place to live in Illinois, according to a list released this month by a real estate website, Movoto.
“If you’re looking for safety in all areas, it has to be Homer Glen. … In fact, if you live here, you only had a one in 127 chance of being the victim of a crime in 2012,” according to the list published by Movoto Real Estate.
A number of other Chicagoland suburbs were on the list’s top 10 safest places. Buffalo Grove came in second, followed by Geneva, Bartlett, Roselle, Lisle, Glen Ellyn, Glenview, New Lenox and Libertyville.
The list looked at data pulled from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s 2012 crime statistics of the most populated places in the state. A list of the top 50 shows each town’s population and rank, along with the number of murders, violent crimes, property crimes and total crimes per 100,000 residents.
